Once you reach certain points in your language course (and if you’re a Premium Plus subscriber), you can take a test to receive official certificates from Busuu and McGraw to confirm your level. One feature of Busuu I didn’t find useful was the language certificates. Busuu has a large number of users, so I guess it’s not that surprising, but I still thought this was cool. Every time I completed a writing or speaking exercise, it only took a couple of minutes for a native speaker to review it and give me feedback. Longer lessons, like the ones in LinguaLift, can sometimes be a little overwhelming for casual language learners (but helpful if you’re serious about learning a language).Īnother aspect I really enjoyed was the community of Busuu users around the world. This helps you focus on mastering the topics quickly and efficiently. What I liked most about the lessons is that they’re short and don’t take long to complete. The flow of the app is smooth and easy to follow and the lesson content is useful, practical, and helpful. Using the Busuu language learning app was a positive experience overall. I do use duolingo along side Babbel, but more for learning words and spellings opposed to sentence structure, as I get told off for typing “drinkt je sap of melk” but not why it should be drink instead of drinkt?! I really dislike duolingo for the lack of clarity on a mistake, I think it’s so you make more mistakes and lose heart therefore are more compelled to pay for unlimited hearts.Busuu Review: Overall Learning Experience It’s far more academic and I find it much harder. Babbel is pay to play app but I got a year for £35, just wait for them to send you an offer after you complete the free trial. I use babbel for more real Dutch opposed to duolingo “de kaas heeft geen staart”. You can listen to DutchPod101 on Spotify for easy and fun Dutch, they’re 5-10 minute podcasts so not as intense as pimsleur. Try to listen to pimsleur audio book on learning Dutch which is good and proven, but you need to commit time to it, I would recommend 30-45 minutes of dedicated time, unlike duolingo where you can do it on the move.
